Blustein, Shapiro, Rich & Barone, LLP Associate Attorney Megan R. Conroy, J.D. will be honored with the 2018 Outstanding New Lawyer Award from the Women’s Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties (WBAOSC) at its Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner Thursday, April 26.
The Outstanding New Lawyer Award is presented annually to a WBAOSC member who has been practicing fewer than 10 years and who has made noteworthy contributions to the WBAOSC, to the profession of law, and to the community at large. Ms. Conroy, an Orange County native, joined BSR&B three years ago as a member of its Estate Planning and Elder Law Department.
“It’s been a pleasure to watch Megan grown not only as an attorney, but also as an individual who is truly committed to making Orange County stronger through volunteerism and advocacy,” said BSR&B Partner Richard J. Shapiro, head of the firm’s Estate Planning and Elder Law Department. “She’s a wonderful example of what it means to be community-minded, and we’re so proud to have her on our team.”
As part of the WBAOSC, Ms. Conroy last year participated in the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh’s “Building Houses Building Hope” project, where she and others worked alongside the future homeowners as they cleaned and stacked bricks. She also serves on the Board of Directors for both the Minisink Valley Kiwanis and the Orange County Farm Bureau, and is an active participant in both organizations’ numerous community service and fundraising initiatives. Ms. Conroy often represents the Farm Bureau at various state conferences and events, including Lobby Day in Albany and the Young Farmers & Ranchers Convention. Most recently, Ms. Conroy supported the Farm Bureau’s Agricultural Literacy Initiative by reading to Otisville Elementary School students and educating them about the farm-to-table process.
In addition, Ms. Conroy is a provisional member of the Junior League of Orange County, where she and two other provisional members organized an initiative to encourage Orange County schools to offer more nutritious – and preferably locally sourced – food options. She is also a 2017 graduate of Leadership Orange, Orange County’s premier leadership training program, where she and her classmates developed a Community Impact Project (CIP) in support of The Arc of Orange County. Project efforts included extensive landscaping of one of The Arc’s adult homes, and deep cleaning of both the home and The Arc’s transport vans.
Ms. Conroy graduated magna cum laude from the College of Saint Rose and received her law degree from Albany Law School. Prior to joining BSR&B, Ms. Conroy interned with both the Third Judicial District in the town and village courts in Albany, N.Y. and the New York State Supreme Court, Ninth Judicial District, in Goshen, N.Y. She is admitted to practice law in New York State, and has studied international law in Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, Monaco, and England.
The Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner will also honor Sarah Jo Hamilton, Esq. with the Distinguished Attorney Member Award and Ariana Antonelli, Esq. with the Public Interest Member Award.
